The little boy who wouldn't put his foot down

My apologies to everyone if I have been a little absent in thought, word and deed. We have had a terrible few days.

Adam developed a lame leg on Wednesday and we have been trying to figure out what was wrong since then.

Doctor's emergency visit on Wednesday evening. X-rays on Thursday morning. Visit to a specialist surgeon on Thursday midday. More X-rays. Visit to Orthopaedic Surgeon Thursday afternoon. Checked his spine and joints for infection. A screaming session where they drew blood from a vein in his neck (they wouldn't let me go in with him). Ultrasound on Friday. Attempted MRI on Friday where we tried to get a kicking and screaming child to fall asleep for the procedure. Successful MRI on Saturday. It is safe to say that the whole process was the most scary, nerve-wracking and stressful experience of my life. Imagine a little boy, frustrated because he can't walk and hungry because mommy won't give him food or water in case of an emergency operation.

Anyway, the light at the end of the tunnel is that he is up and walking again, all-be-it with a hobble and a limp. But he is up. And back to his old charming, chaotic, cute and cuddly self. Nobody knows what was wrong, but we suspect that it was a spider bite that paralysed his leg.

I always used to say that motherhood was the hardest thing that I have ever done. I take it back. There is nothing harder that having something wrong with your child and not knowing what it is or how to fix it. My heart goes out to all the mothers out there with seriously ill children. There must be nothing worse than spending your days in a hospital with a sick child.

I will never forget standing in the waiting room and hearing the spine-chilling screams of my baby in another room and not being able to go to him.

I am so sorry Pia, that you had to go through that and that Adam was so ill. It must have been awful. I cant even imagine.
I would never have thought a spider bite could do that. I hope he is on the mend and back to himself soon
Hugs to you

That is so aweful Pia and I am just glad he is ok. I agree that there can't be anything worse than a sick child, especially when they can't really tell you what is wrong and there is nothing you can do to help. Poor little thing. I am dreading the time when Amy gets ill. xxx

Oh my word - I can't even imagine what you went through - what a terrible time. I am so happy that he is on the mend - I am sure it will be no time before he is running and jumping around again.
